About Us
Based in Stuyvesant High School, Stuyvesant Science Olympiad has been the largest outlet for students to explore their love in science for over twenty years. Founded by a passionate group of student scientists and engineers, we quickly burst onto the NYC metropolitan scene as a first place team in 2004, staying on top to this day.
Inside the Lab
As we are a student-run organization, the team spends hours every day after school in the Innovation Lab, preparing for regional, invitational and state competitions. From late August to early May, our captains dedicate themselves to creating and teaching lessons, while our technology members spend up to five hours in the lab on a daily basis, planning and building machines for competition.
Every Science Olympiad event enhances the student’s educational experience and challenges their physical, mental, and emotional resiliency. Our team learns to deal with tenacious deadlines and unfamiliar environments - our students are made strong in the heat of the challenge.
Outside the Lab
While Science Olympiad provides us with an intense immersion into the sciences, it also serves as a powerful catalyst for our development as individuals, creating memories and bonds that will last a lifetime. From building and racing cardboard kayaks across the river to having fun summer picnics, we are more than just a team - we’re a family.
We aren’t just a union of students with an interest in the sciences either; our group is composed of unique individuals of various talents, ranging from aspiring artists to future politicians. We send off our seniors every year to the most prestigious STEM and liberal arts colleges, while our alumni work all over the nation from Washington D.C. to Silicon Valley.
Today, our members and alumni form a tight-knit community, maintaining a wide network that connects thousands of us across thousands of miles.
